Bath 37 Worcester 13: Joe Maddocks stand in outshines Olly Barkley

Joe Maddock over-shadowed Olly Barkleys Bath return for this Premiership battle at the Recreation ground yesterday.

The Bath wing scored two of his teams four tries as Worcestersdefeat and lack of discipline plunged them further into the relegationmire.

The turning point came on the hour when Tom Wood was dismissed by referee Tim Wigglesworth fora second yellow card offence. The flanker lashed out in frustration when buried at the bottom of a maul and was sent off.

His dismissal reduced Worcester to 13 men as Wood join Chris Latham on the bench shortly after the full back had been sin-binned for blocking Ryan Davis pass to a certain try.

Worcester coach Mike Ruddock described Lathams yellow card as ;harsh. But the relegation-threatened club have more yellow cards this season than any other team and had been wrong-footed by a lack of discipline yet again.

Barkley returned to the Bath bench for his first appearance of the season after a broken leg and the former England centre replaced the injured Butch James just after the interval.

An opening try by Willie Walker promised much for Ruddocks team but Maddock was soon into his stride with two tries in six minutes that cost Worcester dear.

Further Bath tries by skipper Michael Claassens, Matt Banahan and Jonny Faamatuainu left Worcester well beaten.

Ruddock said: ;We are now in a dog fight. Im doing my best to reduce our penalty count.
